Guest Videos: Jaguarundis *Are* Cats


This otter-like little American wild cat is no stranger to the blog, but it is a strange-looking little critter.

For instance, can you tell the difference between the jaguarundi and the weasel-like tayra on this Brazilian trail-camera video?


The jaguarundi has kittens with her — loud kittens!


Here is another video from Brazil that definitely shows the jaguarundi’s feline nature:



According to the accompanying note, that little guy is free to leave but stays around, although he will not allow anyone to pet him.

The video was uploaded eight years ago, and I hope all has gone well for him! He looks quite young and might be a dispersing male who knows a good thing when he sees it.

Some jaguarundis do need our help and protection, though.
