Guest Videos: The Dhole


This is not a dhole. This is a verrry good boy or girl who is delighted that people in Nepal have a holiday that honors dogs.

Mongabay explains the holiday, which was celebrated recently, and also brings in the dholes — an endangered species.

In addition, we have already met these “whistling dogs.”

There really aren’t that many videos of dholes online, and many of those found show them killing things.

However, someone has documented unmistakable evidence that dholes are lovers as well as fighters:

And someone else went to a lot of trouble to answer that burning question: “What’s the difference between African wild dogs and Indian wild dogs?”

If you’re inclined to look for more of these wonderful videos, there aren’t many. Apparently, lots of unthinking people celebrate Diwali with firecrackers that scare dogs — and then upload the videos. Sigh.

That calls for some powerful medicine: puppy cam!
