Guest Videos: Jackals vs. Coyotes

It’s not a face-to-face confrontation — jackals (left, in the above image) and coyotes (right) live on different continents.

They look so much alike, though. What’s the difference?

Here’s what the folks at Wildlife Pedia think:

They also devoted a video to jackals:

Meanwhile, in Namibia, a group of jackals are very uncomfortable about sharing the waterhole with a warthog:

This is a nice change of pace from all the videos we’ve seen of warthogs running for their lives from lions. Those tusks and muscles do faze lesser predators.

Some lagniappe:

They lived happily ever after!

I haven’t read up on it but believe melanism is rare in coyotes, if it exists at all. Carmine’s black coat, toleration of the human environment, and quietness when trapped suggest to this layperson that he’s got some domestic dog genes.
