Sunday Morning Volcano: a day early!
AVO has raised Pavlof’s alert status after detecting a type of earthquake there that signifies magma movement. Here is their statement.
As they note, volcanic unrest often ends without an eruption, according to everything I have read, but eruptions are always preceded by unrest, if only for a few minutes.
Pavlof volcano is not close to any big population center, but it is the most active Aleutian Arc fire mountain, and its eruptions are a local problem as well as a hazard to international aviation.
Also, if and when Pavlof goes off, we could see some stirring sights, as we did in 2013…
