The reason for today’s two sudden Sunday Morning Volcano posts is that I’ve become discouraged with Patreon.
The in-depth one on Popocatépetl was the April members-only Patreon post, and I did the lighter listcicle for May because of time limitations this month.
Of course, I didn’t expect members right away (even though I got silly one day and set up a tiered membership system based on famous eruptions 🙂 ).
But volcanoes are not boring, and I did expect some views (and improved those chances by sharing links wherever possible).
That didn’t happen, perhaps because I might not be on the same wavelength as Patreon people. I’m into words, and the successful Patreons I know are visual — Isak Finnbogason with his volcano drones, for instance.
In the future I’m open to doing some videos but not right now (my dream is to livestream a Cascadia eruption, but my tech know-how is not much, and my situation otherwise isn’t ideal for that right now, so the volcanoes had better stay quiet for a little longer).
Intead, I have decided to put my commercial work in front of others who also are into words and are willing to pay for them — eBooks, in other words, and specifically Amazon because my best results in the past have come through their exclusive Kindle deal.
This really doesn’t change anything in my writing schedule other than giving you two more volcano posts to read 😉 .
- My Patreon stays up and The Decade Volcanoes and Us is still available there as a collection.
- The supervolcano series continues here.
- Initial planning of The Supervolcanoes and Us continues, with the only change being that it will be self-published on Amazon instead of Patreon and other venues (I’d like to say by year’s end but make no promises).
As always, thanks for your interest, likes, and support!
