Yes, Space Cat is on hiatus. I usually access the site by phone, but yesterday used a PC and for the first time realized how off-kilter the header image was.
That needed fixing pronto, and I’ve been thinking about a logo anyway, so I explored some Canva template designs (it’s difficult for a nonprofessional to invent a whole logo that adequately represents topics as diverse as volcanoes, carnivores, geology [misc], and writing).
Also, while the Einstein reference did inspire this blog’s name, it’s too wordy for the header image. Einstein doesn’t get a mention in the image above, but I tried to sum up the gist (which usually is a good thing to do anyway when writing).
This is a trial run. What do you think about it?
Speaking of writing…
Blogging, not eBooks
The Iceland series is complete for now (should leave room for any future corrections and tweaks), and I can refocus on the former Vella volcano series, as mentioned in earlier writing updates.
This could be done by doing up a Sunday Morning Volcano 2025 eBook and releasing it in December. However, images, videos, and links are all very complicated to handle in an eBook (when I find writing one is tough enough!).
Yet they add so much (true for the cat posts, too).
Plus I’ve been having a ball adding such things to the former Vella episodes and am also amazed at the high quality creations that so many people share for free online, helping me to be creative, too.
I like that approach and so will keep my own free, too, blogging away as I’ve been doing.
$$$
That said, I could really use some writing income. The current eBooks are purchased, but not very frequently. That’s just not cutting it overall.
I’d like to get some regular income, but it’s a challenge for a number of reasons.
For now,
- Tips are welcome (see the pinned post to donate securely via Stripe).
- I’m honing my pitching skills but hesitate to dive into the gig arena since I’m retired and there are lots of younger freelancers trying to get established out there. Still, I have a unique voice, punchy writing skills, and know a lot of reliable information about topics everyone is interested in.
- If you would like me to write something for your publication, do fact-checking, or if you could otherwise use my skills, I’m open to discussing it — drop me a line at bjdeming at gmail dot com.
And as always, thank you, each and every one of you (except the stalkers — not a joke, unfortunately), for your interest, support, likes, and comments!
Update: After my initial enthusiasm calmed down, it seemed to me that the Einstein refetence behind this blog’s name just wasn’t coming through and that everyone would expect the blog’s name to be more visible.
There it is! 😎
