It’s a tough world out there! But I am making progress.
Per the last update, I have asked Amazon to unpublish my two Kindle Vella books.
That could take a while, but it is in progress.
In the meantime, I’ve looked around, discovered said tough world, and put that discovery together with my response to the AI crisis for writers — I dislike AI for creative processes, and I think it will only make readers hungry for content that obviously comes from humans.
In brief, I suspect that the coming market online will be a good one for any writer with a recognizable and unique voice.
Oddly enough, I have that, as I’ve been surprised to discover while writing about volcanoes over the last year or so; I also found it while doing the Fangly Facts cat book on Vella.
I need to practice using that voice. I also need to get my work out in front of people as much as possible.
I’ve done some research on paywalls and found that lots of people must act like I do and click away, even if they were reading something interesting.
There are alternative business models, which I’m exploring, but in the meantime it’s best for me to put my work out — for free — here at the blog (but with all rights reserved).
So there is going to be a Friday cat post AND Sunday morning volcano this week after all.
