Last Saturday it was wolves. Today, Family Felidae gets the two-parter coverage from Get.Factual!
Here is a little background information:
- What’s a gallery forest?
- National Geographic on the Serengeti.
- A research paper on dispersal in leopards (adult female cats of all species tend to stay close to Mom, but males must leave home when they grow up)
- A research paper on how lions and leopards coexist a little farther south of the Serengeti.
Creator note:
The gallery forests of the Serengeti are the realm of a phantom. The shadowy thickets are the domain of a Leopardess. For days she is almost invisible, but then strikes out of nowhere to claim her tribute. For some she means sudden death. But she hunts for a reason: She has a five months old cub and she is dedicated to nothing but its survival. Mother and son will have to face many perilous encounters.
Creator note:
A brook in the Serengeti is the home of a leopardess. The secret queen of the shadows took care of her son and has done a good job so far but the adventure continues. While he must make a dangerous journey into adulthood, the family grows larger. Two tiny females are born. If all goes well her daughters may one day inherit her realm to become in their turn the elusive queens of the gallery forests.
