Japan’s Noto Peninsula Earthquake

I didn’t blog about this right away because it was so unusual. I know just enough geology to see that, and not enough to say anything intelligent about it and so just shared information on Twitter that came my way.

These experts have summed it up nicely.

While looking up images for this post, I saw many showing how beautiful the Noto Peninsula once was. It reminded me of New England’s rocky coast, but with rice paddies and mountains running down to the sea.

It’s a shame and a tragedy that the peninsula is now synonymous with “disaster.”

Time will bring healing, both to the human heart and to the natural world. Beauty will come again.

All we can do right now is to grieve along with the victims and their country.

  1. Remember the 2011 disaster? Japan recovered then… It’ll recover now as well. The Japanese are strong and resilient, and their buildings are something else. Had this earthquake happened in almost any other country, the loss of life would have been even greater. That’s something that never ceases to amaze me. It was a strong earthquake.
