This is the first year I’ve been following bears, and the Katmai National Park tweeple are amazing.
They’ve already held a junior contest, but I waited for the adult “competition” to begin.

Again, I’m as new to this as you are, but I’m beginning to realize that it may be a very human way of saying “Thanks for a wonderful summer, and hope all of you bears make it through the winter” to wild beings who wouldn’t understand, even if they could hear us.
