Guest Video: Yellowstone’s Junction Butte Wolf Pack

Nature documentaries that tell a human-style story and have lots of close-ups and action shots can be fun, even when we know that the animals’ true story is random and chaotic.

Yet that natural randomness is wild and beautiful, too.

As for the story, when those animals are reintroduced wolves in a national park, conservationists know it quite well.

So here is video of the pack whose dramatic, ongoing story is linked above.

It was shot this past February and shared in early July.

The videographer just set up on a distant hill and, for hours, filmed wolves, whose lives can be hard but who simply seemed to be enjoying one of those rare good days when hunger wasn’t strong enough yet to force them into grueling chases through deep snow; and when no disasters, like losing an alpha member, had recently turned their world upside down.

Just nosing around in the sun, socializing with pals, and playing follow-the-leader — for wild wolves, it’s the good life.
