Wait, and they will come —
Edit, August 29, 2023: — so does winter, and early in these parts. Per the Park Service:
July is the best time to watch bears fishing at Brooks Falls. However, bears are in the area from mid spring until mid fall and a few bears may fish at Brooks Falls in September and October. Katmai’s brown bears are most active during daylight hours.
In the Off Season: Because the cam is solar powered, it does not run year round. When this is the case, the stream will show highlights from previous years.
The National Park Service’s brown bear FAQ page.
July 28, 2023, 8:36 a.m., Pacific: There’s more drama here than I had expected:
Breaking news: 480 Otis is back! 🎉 (You can breathe again.)
480 Otis has returned to Brooks River and he's catching fish at the falls. 🙂🐟
Even at his age, he's still expertly catching fish and continues to surprise us. 👑 🐻
